LYTTELTON NEWS

CHANGE OP WEATHER The spring-like weather which prevailed, at Lyttelton over the week-end changed shortly after midday yester- t day, when a sou'-westerly storm, with i heavy rain, set in. The rain ceased after a couple of hours, but the weather remained cold and dull. < The Sailing Season • Although the opening of the sailing j season is more than two months away, ( many owners of yachts and small craft have already commenced the work of overhauling their boats. Last week , the big keel yacht Marangi was placed • in the shed, where her crew are work- , ing on her, and others are to follow her on the slip. The Pastime, which < during the winter was entirely recon- J ditioned and partly rebuilt, was launched two weeks ago, and made I practically no water. Her new sails are expected to arrive from Auckland < next week. The mainsail will be of J 617 square feet, and the two head sails i of about 250 square feet. The spin- < naker, which will be made locally, will be carried from the top of the mast, necessitating back-stays being rigged. It is not intended to carry a topsail flt orcscnt. Among the boats which have changed hands recently is the Idle Along class boat Listless, which has been sold by Mr Harley Ostler to Mr J. Tibbie. 1
