THE NEW TELEPHONE DIRECTORY
The September Issue of the Christchurch telephone directory is noteworthy for the neVv cover which is more decorative in character than the familiar red one in which the directory has appeared in the past. The background is a light buff, the printed matter being in blue and red. The cehtre piece is a red triangle on which appears the representation of a telephone instrument, ahd above, on a scmi-circular scroll, are the words "Telephone Directory," the letters being outlined in red, the background being blue. Although great cafe is exercised in compiling the directory, mistakes occur, and the present issue is not without blemishes. An example of meticulous, but somewhat imtating, indexing is given in the list of Government departments. No number is given ulider the heading "Weights and Measures, Inspector of," but the searcher is referred to "Inspector of Weights and Measures," where again no number is given, but the searcher is referred to "Labour Department" and at last discovers the number he ,seeks, _
