The duration of the song of the lark is the subject of a controversy that has been going on at Horsforth, near Guisley, Yorkshire. A question in an examination under the West Riding Education Committee suggested that the song of the lark lasted fourteen minutes. Against this Mrs Lily an educationist, protested, saying that a' minute and a-half was the average time. A rejoinder to the protest from the country authority explained that the question was taken from a book by W. H. Hudson, a well-known writer and authority on bird life.
