GENEROUS GIFTS.

COAL AND BLANKET FUND. The Mayor (Mr J. K Archer) was able yesterday to announce two very welcome and generous gifts to the Coal and Blanket Fund. Mr Archer said that he had had 20 tons of coal offered to the fund from the co-operative coal miners of the West Coast. They were hoping that the Eailway Department would transport it free of charge to Christchurch. The, Point Elizabeth Coal Company had offered, under the instructions of the committee, to distribute the coal in and ' about the City. "This is the second gift of 20 tons of coal given by the co-operative coal miners of the West. Coast to the City within twelve months," the Mayor remarked.
