NEW PRAYER BOOK
BISHOP BARNES OBJECTS. REALITIES MUST BE FACED. (rxtTZD rasa* associatioh—bt uzctbio TELSOBATH—COPTRIOHT.) LONDON, June 7. Bishop Barnes reiterates his objections to the Prayer Book proposals as further disuniting the Church. He advocates, in the event of the House of Commons rejecting the proposals, noncontentious revision. Ho partly agrees with the Archbishop of Canterbury's plea, but, though moved by the pathos of hi» words, declares that the younger men must face realities, especially becauso tho Church's present plight is duo to the failure of its loaders in tho immediate past to do so. If the present proposals pass, ho says, the Church will steadily lose tho evangelical and liberal elements. Tho possible ending is Church disendowment. _ Tlie Archbishop of Canterbury, presiding at tho Canterbury Diocesan Conference, hinted at his early retirement. He said that the seventh Lambeth Conference, in 1930, would nob be under his chairmanship.—Australian Press Association, United Service.
