Rangitoto and other prominent points in the vicinity of Auckland City were silhouetted against backgrounds of varying shades of blue on Friday evening as a brilliant exhibition of lightning played round the suburbs. The flashes followed each other at intervals of a few seconds, the discharges continuing from 5 o'clock until about 7.30 p.m. An unusual display camo shortly after 7 o'clock. In the sky to the east of Rangitoto the lightning fell from a heavy bank of cloud in a sheet of white tinged with blue, and in its centre there aDDeared a crescent of dazzling silver.
