PERSONAL. (SPECIAL 10 ''THZ PEIBB.-"} GREYMOUTH, May 22. Mr 11. E. Holland, M.P., Leader of the Opposition, accompanied by Mr Jas. O'Brien, -will leave for South Westland on Friday next. Mr F. Smyth arrived from Christchurch this afternoon on a visit to Sergeant and Mrs J. Smyth, Arney street. Mr 11. B. Young (Westport) left today for Christchurch. Mr Bert Wylde, of the Railways Transport Office, Wanganui, arrived this afternoon on a visit to relatives in Grcymouth. Mr James Bimmer, of the Eeefton railways staff, left to-day on transfer to Christchurch. Prior to his departure he was diet by the Eeefton railway station staff and presented with a wallet. Mr Rimmer was the recipient of a similar gift from the members of the Waratah Football Club. Mr C. Hill, of the Post Office staff, Heriot, is visiting his mother at Black's Point, Eeefton. Mrs Arthur and Misses D. and P. Arthur (Ashburton), and Miss N. Milligan (Oamaru), who have been visiting Mrs W. F. Diedrich, Kokatahi, returned to their homes by to-day's express. The Rev. J. M. and Mrs Simpson arrived this afternoon on a visit to their son, Mr R. C. Simpson, Bank of New South Wales. The marriage was solemnised by Archdeacon Carr, at Holy Trinity Church, this morning, of Mr Thomas Caldwell, third son of Mrs and the late Mr T. Caldwell, Cobden, and Miss Alice Ellen Watson, eldest daughter of Mrs and the late Mr J. "Watson, Albert street, Greymouth. The bridesmaids were Misses Gladys Watson and Jean Caldwell. Misses Natalie Bothwell and Joyce Blocksage acted as flower girls. Mr Eric Kitchingham was best man, and Mr Geo. Caldwell groomsman. After the ceremony the wedding party was entertained at the residence of the bride's mother. Mr . and Mrs Caldwell left by the express en route for Wellington and Auckland. Dr. Helen Dougall, who has resigned the position of house surgeon at the Grey Hospital in order to take up a position as school medical officer at Wellington, prior to her departure from Grevmouth was the recipient of a presentation from the patients, past • and present, who have been under her care during her term at the hospital. In handing Dr. Dougall a solid silverbacked mirror, Mr J. D. Lynch said he had been deputed by numerous patients to ask the doctor's acceptance of the gift as a token of their appreciation of her excellent work on their behalf at the institution. Dr. Dougall, who suitably acknowledged the presentation, will leave by Thursday's express, en route to Wellington.

Magistrate's Court. At a sitting of the Greymouth Magistrate's Court to-day, before Mr W. Meldrum, S.M., John Joseph O'Neill, a fireman in the steamer Ihumata, was charged with the theft of 5s 8d in cash, the property of the second engineer, Archibald Taylor. Captain Ostenfeld, of the Ihumata, said that O'Neill was quite all right when sober, but when he went ashore and had a few drinks he was irresponsible. Accused was sentenced to 48 hours' imprisonment, and ordered to be placed on board the vessel before she sailed. An application for a change of venue to Christchurch was refused by the Magistrate in a civil case, in which the Grey Eiver Argus Company proceeded against H. H. Cook, Ltd., Christchurch, in connexion with payment for an advertising contract. Mr G. A. Revell made the application on behalf of defendant, which was opposed by Mr, W. Joyce for plaintiffs. Plaintiffs were allowed £1 Is costs. The hearing of the case was adjourned until June sth, at Greymouth, to enable the evidence of defendant to be taken at Christchurch. Mrs Elizabeth Nelson (Mr G. A. Revell) proceeded against L. A. P. Hales (Mr W. J. Joyce) in a claim for £7 5s and possession of a tenement in Blaketown. Hales counter-claimed for £ 7 7s for work done for Mrs Nelson to her property and meals supplied to her. After hearing evidence the Magistrate allowed the full amount of the counterclaim, £7 7s, less plaintiff's claim for £5 for rent. Judgment was given for defendant for the balance of £2 7s Id, with £2 Is 6d costs.

Motor Collision. I When proceeding from Blackball to Greymouth this morning Gould's service bus collided with a motor-car on the Maori Gully bridge near Matai. Both drivers applied their brakes to avoid meeting on the bridge, thus averting what might have been a serious accident. The impact took place just as the front wheels of the bus touched the bridge. None of the passengers was injured, and after a short delay, both vehicles proceeded on their respective journeys. Rugby Football. At the weekly meeting of the West Coast Eugby Union this evening, Mr A. A. Adams presided. Among those present were the following representatives of the Westland Sub-Union: Messrs H. M. Coulson, B. W. Heenan, J. Stafford, D. B. Dowell, and S. Moore. It was agreed to make a division of prospective representative matches as between Greymouth and Hokitika, that of the Canterbury team to be played at Hokitika. 'ln regard to players ordered off or cautioned, it was agreed that Hokitika players be dealt with by the Westland Sub-Union and Grey players by the West Coast Eugby Union.

With a view to starting senior games more punctually at Victoria Park, it was decided that any junior game on the A ground unfinished by 3.5 p.m. be stopped. The Magpie Club wrote advising that owing to the timber depression they were compelled to withdraw from the competitions. It was resolved to write the secretary of the Magpie Club regretting the circumstances which led to their withdrawal from the competitions, and to thank both the secretary (Mr Fitzgerald), and president (Mr W. Ogilvie), for the interest and assistance they had given to the code.
