Appreciation of the present-day territorials was expressed by the General Officer Commanding the New Zealand Forces, Major-General Young, at a meeting of returned soldiers at Hamilton? The present territorials, ho said, were quite as good as the soldiers of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force and he felt confident that if ever called upon to do so they would do their part just as well as did the New Zealand soldiers in the Great War (reports a local correspondent). The General remarked that while a good deal had been heard of late iu opposition to mili tary training, he was quite sure that it was a good thing for the boys who underwent it. It was in their interests to be disciplined, to turn out well, and to toe the mark. General Young added that as long as he felt he had the sym pathy and backing of the returned soldiers of the Dominion he did not care twopence for anything else. Britain had never looked for trouble, but she had always felt it necessary to be prepared to defend her homes and her liberties, and New Zealand, as part of the great Empire, should be prepared to do her share.
