INCREASE OF £llBB.

TRAMWAY REVENUE. FOUR WEEKS* FIGURES. The operations of the Christchurch Tramway Board for the period of four weeks ended on December 12th last, which does not include any holiday traffic, show m increase of £llBB over the previous period. From these figures must he deducted the sum of £§77 for two race meetings in the previous year, which did not come into the period mentioned. Al more frequent service has been run in the inner area by 29,129 car miles, or 14 per cent, more than tor the corresponding period last year, but the passengers carried over one two,)

and- three sections over the whole system, but principally in the City area, increased by only 6 per cent. This increase, however, produced £743. Seaside return tickets increased by £404, but there was a decrease in the other outer area ticket* of £97. The New Brighton line contributed £375 to the result, but it must be remembered that this time last year opposition buses were running on that route and also tramway buses. The only lines which showed decreases were Papanui £l6, which more than most lines is feelingthe effect of private motor-car competition, and North Beach £238, to which place a more direct private bus service is operating, The Hornby buß service produced £IOO last year, but this year it is being run by a private firm which receives a subsidy from the .Tramway Board for so j doing. The sanatorium bus service on Suni days has also been withdrawn in favour ! of a taxi service.
