Lord Jellieoe is expected to lay thi foundation stone of the Dunedin Exhibition on the afternoon of October 13 th.
Mr Henry A. Bishaw, late of Hawaii and Australia, arrived yesterday from the north.
Messrs R. Hughe3 (New York) and L. Hawkea (Christchurch) are guests at Warner's Hotel.
Messrs F. H. Bass (Wellington) and P. Clements (Devonport) are amongst those staving at the Clarendon Hotel. Messrs W. A. Coate3 (London), H. Page (Dunedin), G. Bundle (Melbourne), H. E. Bedwell (Sydney) and J. E. Wilson (England) are staying at. tho United Service Hotel. Professor W. E. Thomas, Mus.Doc, who has been organist and choirmaster at St. Mary's Cathedral, Parnell, Auckland, for the last 22 years, is retiring from that position. At the meeting of the New Zealand Trotting Association yesterday Mr P. Selig was re-elected president, a position which he' has held continuously since the formation of the Association in 1899.
At its meeting this week the New Zealand Meat Producers Board unanimously re-elected Mr David Jones to bo chairman of the Board for the ensuing twelve months. Mr J. S. Jcssep was likewise re-elected vice-chairman. Mr Wm. Perry was re-appointed acting-chairman during the absence of Messrs Jones and Jessep.
Mr F. W. Baxter, son of Mrs W. E. Baxter, of Auckland, has been appointed assistant professor of English at McGiH University, Montreal, Canada. Mr Baxter was educated at the Auckland Grammar School and Auckland University College, and after war service attended Oxford University, where he was Shakespeare scholar of his year, graduating with first-class honour 3 in English. Mr Baxter is at present a member of the English staff of the University of London.
