METHODIST CHURCH.

DURHAM STBEET. The quarterly * meeting of the .Durham Street Methodist. Church was held on '.Thursday, the Rev. P. N. Knight presiding. Thq chairman reported the membership at 291 adults, and 22 juniors. The balance-sheet, showing a credit balance, was received and adopted. Tho effort on behalf of foreign missions resulted in £165 being raised, which was considered extremely satisfactory. Tho question of systematic giving bv means of tho envelopo system' was discussed. It was decided to mako no alteration in the present system, but that the circuit stewards bo requested to obtain further subscriptions to the sustcntation fund. The circuit stsward, Mr J. ft. Flcshcr, moved that the Rev. P. N. Knight invited to remain for a sixth year as superintendent of tho circuit. Tho invitation was accopted. Unanimous invitations wero also given to the liev. "Win. Baumber and Sister Edith to remain in the circuit, and were accepted. Messrs R. Hampton and C. K. Wigglesworth were appointed representatives to the District Synod, with Messrs E. C. Brown and G. Barrell as substitutes. A resolution was carried on the motion of Mr J. A. Flcsher: "That conference should be recommended, through the District, Synod, to eliminate the clauso in tho Book of Laws requiring written reasons why a minister should be appointed to a circuit for a sixth or succeeding years." ADDHTGTOX. At the quarterly meeting of the Addington Methodist Church, the Rev. T. "W. Vealie presided. Membership returns were satisfactory, and 'the balance-sheet disclosed a substantial credit balance. Encouraging reports were submitted covering the work of the C. E. and Young People's Societies, and the children of the Clarence Road Church were specially commended on their success at the recent Sunday school examination. The chairman reported, with respect to foreign missions, that the collections totalled £113 10s,a record. The Rev. T. W. Vealie, who is just oompleting his fifth year as superintendent ■ minister, intimated that he would not be remaining for another term, and arrangements were instituted for the appointment of a successor. The Rev. TV. T. Hooper acccpted a hearty invitation to remain another year in charge of the Riccarton district. The Rev. IV. Harris asked to be allowed to retire at the end of the year. Sister Catherine end Mr Carr were appointed representatives to the District Synod, with Messrs Duncan and Campion as substitutes. KAIAPOI. The quarterly meeting of the . Methodist \ Church was held on 'xoureday night, the Rev. \V. Ready presiding over a large attendance. 'l'he baiknee-ahcet showed a credit of over £13. A gitvut oi i'a was made to tho trust funds. Ready was invited to remain another year in the circuit,. Messrs J. H. Blackwell and V. E. Parnham were appointed representatives to tho Synod. The meeting expressed gratitude that Lieutenant Ready (wounded) had returned. A tribute was also paid to the unique way in which Mr Ready had perpetuated ' the memory of his late son, GorIdon, killed in action, by placing concrete paths m iront of the paraonaea.
