T ♦ , . . KOWAL The monthly meeting of tho Kowai County Council was-.,held on Saturday. Present— Messrs ■G. A. McLean' (chairman), J. liowe, W. xi. iia.ej T. Honfia; W. A,' Michalls, and W. J. Mathers. Correspondence waa received from . the Broomiield School Committee, stating that the building of a bridge, over the Kowai river was & work of necessity. It was decided to communicate with Mr G. W. Forbes, M.P., in the matter. The Prime Ministor wrote asking that a publio meeting be held on August 4th, the second anniveisary of the declaration of war, to pass a resolution reaffirming tho determination of the Empire to continue tho war to a victorious issue. It was agreed to ask the resident® to meet in the Council Chambers, Balcairn, at 2 p.m., on August 4th, to pass the resolution submitted by the Government. The Minister of Internal Affairs forwarded authorities under tho Motor Regulation Aot, 1908. The tender of W. Bowman, Rangiora, at £72 10s, was accepted for building a, travelling whare. It was decided to invito tenders for shingling Lawcock road, Railway Reserve roaa, and Ram Paddock road. The surveyor's report, which recommended the raising of bridge on Berrydale road, was approved. " . ' Tho chairman moved: —"That the North road, from the. Ashley Rivor to the Waipara RiveT, and the road from Ashley township, through Balcairn to Amberley, bo declared ' County ro;(d3, the maintenance of which will be bo'rno by. the whole County." i The • motion was seconded by Mr Hale, and carried. ...
