Assisted by a Board of three business men who volunteered for the purpose the purchase of supplies for the Defence Department is now c n such a footing that arrangements arc made for many months ahead, and it is quite certain that the buying i» on the most favourable basis. It is understood that the saving in money owing to the operations of the Board, as compared with the former system, has been very large.' 7
