Recently the North Canterbury Education Board applied to tho Education Department for a grant for additions to the West Christchurch school. At yesterday's meeting of the Board a letter was received from Dr. "\V. J. Anderson,, Director of Education, stating he understood that rooms Xos. 7 and 8, at the rear of tho wooden building, were unsatisfactory class-rooms, old. and badly lighted, and tho proper course would be to condemn these rooms, and replaco them by a corresponding addition to tho brick building fo r secondary purposes, the additions to bo part of.a scheme of reconstruction at a future date. Tho Board's, architect was instructed to prepare plans, with estimates of cost, and refer the matter to the Board. The annual general meeting of the Board of Governors of the McLean Institute is to be held on the 14th inst., for the consideration of accounts for
the year ending May 11th. 1916. The chief items in these accounts are:— Salaries and wages, £3199; allowauccs and stipends paid to beneficiaries, £3189; provisions, £201o; miscellaneous, renewals and repairs, £833; fuel, lighting. etc., £503; insurances, rates, etc., £46"; drugs and medical fees. etc.. £399; gardens' expenditure, £82; postage, telegrams., telephones, ctr_., £80: iiewspapei's and magazines, £77founders' dinner. £37: total expenditure, £14,.539. The incomc was £12.130, capital account stands at £260,381, and sinking . funds and reserves at £7133.
