A DENIAL BY MR HICKEY.
(special to "the press.") MARTON JUNCTION, December 19. Mr P. Hickev has apparently denied
in tho Wellington papers the statement he mado to your representative concerning tho leadership of the Labour Party, and he states in the report that lie was never in Wanganui in his life. Unless there is in tho country an exact counterpart of Mr Hickey with the same face and the same glib tongue, and representing himself to be Mr Hickey, the latter unquestionably made the statement attributed to him. Furthermore, the statement about Mr G. W. Russell being the coming leader and also the alleged tiredness on the part of the Federation of Labour of both Sir Joseph Ward and Mr Massey, was written in his presence in the dining car of the train shortly before Aramoho Junction '.which is part and parcel of Wanganui) was reached. .
