BOROUGH COUNCILS.

AKAROA. ' The Akaroa Borough Council met on Wednesday. Present: The Mayor (Mr G. Armstrong) and Crs. Lewitt, Walker, Fyfe, 3lunro, Cantroll, Leete, and Daly. Correspondence was read from the North Canterbury Hospital .and Charitable Aid Board, stating that the sanitary inspection of the borough would be carried out for £16. This charge was considered excessive, and the Board was notified to that effect. From the assistant telegraph engineer, notifying that insulated wires had not been ■used for the borough extension, which was detrimental to the tolephono service, and asking the Council to remedy tho matter. From the Hon. R. H. Rhodes, stating that an Order-in-Coun-cil had been passed, renewing the lease of the new wharf, tho prior, one having expired. The report of the Works' Committee, recommending that labour be employed to spawl -500 yards of metal at the Council's quarry, ready for the crusher, was adopted. It was resolved that the town clerk pay a visit of inspection to tho Council's reserves at Ashburton, and report to next meeting.
