The Admiralty-has kindly- supplied mo with the foUowing record of. the services of H.M SI Philomel, the new training ship for New .Zealand,/ during tho whole of the time she has been, on tho Navy Li_t:— •"'-- November 10th, 1891: Commi-sibned for Capo of Good Hope station. 7 ; ISytS: Took* part in bombardment of Zanzibar. . x. ■• 1897: Took part in.". Benin Expedition. .-"■"' 1893, March to November: In reserve. ..,-,--. •-... 1898. December Ist: Commissioned edfor Cape Station. During South African War Philomel landed .a naval contingent. 1908. February Ist: Commissioned -for Mediterranean During tho summer" of/1908 the Philomel was employed in the Red.Sea,in suppressing tho arm- traffic. Her commanding officer was temporarily senior naval offi.or Aden in East Indies Station, and was, specially commended for his services. 1909: Philomel conveyed the Sirdar from Aden to Berbera in April, 1909. Occupied in suppressing arms traffic on Somali coast. Philomel returned to England in July, 1909, and paid off at Portsmouth 26th July, re-commissioned on tho following day for tho East Indies Station. " Returned to Aden in November. . 1910: Engaged in Persian Gulf in suppressing arms traffic, and took part m the capture of numerous native chows. 1911, .September: Occupied off the Somali coast. Paid off at Aden 4tb October, and re-oommissioned for further service in East Indies. 1913. April: Proceeded to Muscat in "" Persian Gulf, and, took part in operations against tribes in vicinity of Buslure, which had been .engaged in gunrunning. October 23rd: at Biugapore for service in New Zealand..
