THE WAIMAIRI COUNCIL.
TO TUB EDITOR OP "THE TRESS." Sir,—-In your local columns this morning I notice that a speaker at the Radcliffo road bridge opening stated that he doubted if there was another district in tho Dominion where the ratepayers did so much for themselves as in Waimairi, and he evidently is proud of thorn. This speaker never said a truer thing in his life, and the Council are now driving around the district in their motors to see the results of the ratepayers' industry. I notice that they neglected to inspect one part of their district which has been a ' hive of industry lately. All the residents turned out to grub gorse in tbo hub of the township because the Council had neglected to do it. I was pleased to . note that the county was the wealthiest local body of its kind in New Zealand, and this accounts for tho splendid condition of all our streets. Some ratepayers have had the temerity to question the expenses of administration in this district,- and have been told they are tho cheapest in Canterbury, with tho exception of the City of Christchurch. _ We must congratulate ourselves on this fact, but might consider joining Christchurch, and save more. —Yours, etc., ANTI-SLUSH.
