HEAVY GALE AND RAIN.
Tho weather, which has been J unseasonable and unsettled during the' last few weeks, took another chanfeefor the worse last night. About sunr set there was a heavy rainstorm tho north-west, and at 10 o'clock. th«v ■ wind veered into the south-west, with' violent saualls. Soon it, was bkminjra strong gale, with an unusually heavy* downpour of rain, which continued: through the night. The ferry steamer Wahine. which left Wellington at 8.10 p.m., with a full complement of passengers, ran into the gale during the night, and will probably be lato this morning.
