GENERAL ELECTION NOTES.
Mr H. Hunter's executive committee mot last night, Mr H. L. Taylor prosiding. Encouraging reports were submitted. It was decided to bold a meeting in the Foresters' Hall, Oxford terrace, next Friday evening for the purpose of formirig a central committee. "The secretary of the Ghristj church East Branch of the New Zealand Labour Party wrote asking for a conference of all members of Mr Hunter's committee and the branch, and it was decided to accede to the request, and a meeting will b© Held in,the. Trades Hall next Wednesday evening, when - important matters relating to the general elections will be dealt with. The candidate stated that he intended to outline hie policy at his meeting next Friday' evening.. \' ' Mr D. D. Macfa'rlane, a * candidate i for the Hurnnni sent, will addrese the, electors in McDonald's Hall, Waiau, at 8 0.m., on Monday next; Botherham School. 8 p.m., Tuesday; Hanmer Springs HaU, 8 p.m., Wednesday; and in the Culverden- Hall, at 8 p.m.*, on Thursday. He favours triennial Parliaments, elective Legislative Council, abolition of the second ballot, , L.I.P. leaseholders to have the option of the freehold, the. money resulting to be used for the purchase of more estates, reduction in advances to settlers below £500, provision of land for workers' homes, and advances to workers at 3} per cent. .He received' a vote of thanks. INVERCARGIIiL, September 29. Mr Allan Carmichael is definitely announced as the Opposition candidate for Wallace at> the-general election. Mr Carmichael is a well-known farmer in the district. ' •
