The latest official .figures give the number killed and musing in the Liberty disaster as 216. The Liberty's stock of powder total* led 125 tons. Explosions preceded the outbreak of fire. Several officers perished in attempting .to flood the magazines, as the electrical machinery became jammed. Admiral Bellue emphasises that there was a space of nineteen minutes between the two first explosion*, which , preceded any outbreak of fire, and before the final catastrophe there was the same interval. This ie similar to what ' happened in the lenas case. The first subscriptions for the relief of the victim's families total £4000. The French Press Association hae, opened a national relief fund. LONDON, September 28. Madame Rejane, the famous French actress, is organising a benefit at the \ Hippodrome for the sufferers. Several persons have paid 28 guineas for boxes.
