GARDEN NOTES.

THE SPRING FLOWER SHOW.
At the Spring Snow held during the week there were some excellent exhibite j setnp, particularly in the narcissus section.' These included many novelties of great merit, and what gave added utf terest was the fact that many of the best of the novelties were locally raised. "The collection from Otahuna was, pax excellence, th© exhibit of the-show, and was much admired by the ' visitors. Here was evidenced much good work as the result of keen and intelligent hybridising. Mr F. Biggs also set up many seedling xNarciesi of Ms own raising, which w#re excellent in quality and, varied in character. Mr Biggs has proved to be one of the best mii formed* and most progressive of our Narcissus hybridieors. MrJ. G. Davis also had some really good things, but spoilt his «xhibite somewhat by including a namber which have no show value, and should J>e discarded for exhibition purposes. Some of them may have value tor garden purposes, but not for showing. Other exhibitors in a small way showed that raising Narcissi from seed has become quite popular. It is worth noticing that the'exhibit set up by.'Col. R. Heaton Rhodes and Mr A. G. 801 l were object lessons in staging, and could be followed by many other exhibitors with advantage to thoir exhibits, and aleo
to visitors. . The TaTips sent for exhibition by Mr D.- Bradbury were the finest ever etag<*d in a Chnstchurcfe show. They TTcre tergc» in. s«o and clear in colour. This exhibit attracted , the attention.of visitors, who were lavish in their «*™» tl «J I .*?j t0 (n j2 0 merits of the flowers d v I ™SP Tulips wer«» grown in a tion and m a free bit of soil, which was river silt in cbaraoter. In passing, wo might eteto coming increasingly popular again receive tho attention it a<ferves. ToVlong its charms hare been lost to vbw, ans a revival of Hitnrt m «h showy spring-flowonng bulb is as-s-urod.
