Ilaselden, S.M., conducted the business at the Magistrate's Court yesterday. DRUNKENNESS. Peter O'Connell and a male first offender, charged with drunkenness, were each fined 5s- A second male first offender, who did not appear, was fined 7s. BREACH OF PROHIBITION ORDER. Thomas Bell, a prohibited person, who did not appear, was fined 40a for being found on the licensed premises of the Royal Hotel. Gregor McGregor, for a similar offence, was also fined 40s, in default fourteen days' imprisonment. The Rev. W. S. Bean asked that the man might be committed to the Samaritan Home, and his Worship ordered that the sentence would be suspended provided the man would remain in the Samaritan Home for at least six months. Joseph Spiers and John Short were alao fined 40s each for similar offences. ALLECSED SLY GROG SELLING. Joseph Miller, who appeared upon two charges of soiling liquor without being l duly licensed, applied to have the case adjourned for a week. , The application was granted. ALLEGED TRESPASS. Nathaniel Thomas, fox whom Mr Oμsidy appeared, was charged with unlawfully trespassing upon the premises of the Waltham Arms Hotel, and refusing to leave when requested to do so. The caee was adjourned for a week. BREACH OF BY-LAWS. Jim Lee, a Chinese laundryman, was fined £3 and costs for failing to close his chop on the afternoon of Thursday, December 31st. The defendant, Iα the course of a long and not very lucid explanation, stated that he had to keep open on the Thursday, as his customers wanted their shirts for Now Year's Day. Thomas Beegan was sentenced to two months' imprisonment for disobeying a maintenance order for the support of hie wife, the warrant to be suspended provided the defendant puid £1 weekly towards the liquidation of tha arrears. A cliarge against William Henry Ryan for deserting his wife and children was adjourned for a week. SUMMARY SEPARATION. ~ Fanriv Sentt obtained, by consent, a summary separation order against hw husband, William V&gs Scott, who was ordered to pay £2 weekly towards t4w support of his -wife and live* children.
