• The .bazaar in aid-of the funds of St. Mary's Catbolio -Church will bu opened in the Opera House on .May 15th. - Signor 'Borzoni ia arranging a series of special tableaux and dauce?, and a large number of ladies have stalls. . _. The hounds of the Christchurch Hunt Club will meet at Merlewood this afternoon.

It is notified elsewhere that the hardware estoblishriients of Christchurch - will close at 5.30 p.m., except on Thursdays and Saturdays, during the months of June, July and August. The Christchurch Meat Company made a remarkably attractive display of . their (goods yesterday at their shop in Norwich quay, "Lyttelton. Much taste, ingenuity and skill were .evinced by the arrangement of the meat and " sinaU goods." The C.M.R. will fire a match at Tai Tapu to-day against the Engineers. The Canterbury Rugby Union's competitions will be continued this afternoon. Of the senior matches . Linwood against Kaiapoi takes, place at Kaiapoi. The other two matches are to be played at Lancaster Park, the third ground at which is to be utilised by the president's cup contest Albion A v Sumner.

There being a large increase in every class the* committee have experienced trouble in finding space and have been com-' pelled to refuse a number of exhibits for exhibition only. The quality of the blooms promises to be quite up to, the usual standard, whilst the. number of new varieties is largely- in excess of that of any previous season. ,»

The annual social of the N Battery will be held in the Lyttelton Oddfellows' Hall on Friday next. , Theatre-goers will be glad to hear that Mr and Mrs R. Brough will play a season at the Theatre Royal here in Grand National week. Since they were last here, the company has been re-fpriried, and a large number of new pieces added to the repertoire. A number of the latest comedies will be played during the season, which no doubt will be equally as successful as those which have preceded it. The date of the dinner- to the Fire Brigades, to be given, by his Worship the Mayor, has been fixed for May 12th. The opening social of the Society of Lancashire Folk will be held on Thursday, May 4th, at. the Caledonian Society's Rooms, Hereford street. . , A conimittee meeting of the' Avon Rowing Club was held on- Monday evening, the captain, Mr J. McDonald, in the chair. The annual smoke concert and presentation of prizes was arranged to take place on Friday, bth May. Messrs W. A' Poison, J. Murphy, R. Howeth, A. Brown, and E. G. Watkin wer appointed a' committee to arrange a series of winter socials, and it was decided to form a card club in connection with the winter amusements. Several accounts were passed for payment, and the meeting adjourned. .
