The merry musical comedy of 'The French Maid" was again successfully given by the Pollard Company at the Theatre Royal last night, and the principal performers met with capital receptions. • All the best numbers were re-demanded,' and a prodigali shower •, of coins accompanied Suzette's chorus to, "Please Give mc a Penny." The same programme is to this evening, and on Monday it gives place to the first production in Christchurch by the company of the "Gaiety Girl." - . The Queen's Cadets held a social in their orderly room on Thursday evening. Sergeant Mansfield was presentedwith a medal for second prize in the tent competitions at camp. Several toasts were honoured, arid songs were given by Captain Lane, Messrs Taylor and Davidson, Corporals Gee and Heese, Lance-Corporals Lee and Clements, arid Privates Harris and Hicks, and recitations by Mr Captain Lone, and Bugler Davidson.

A pleasant entertainment was given last night in St John's Schoolroom by the children of the Sunday School, who had been carefully trained by the teachers and friends in the. art of rendering tableaux. The little ones were assisted by contributions from Misses Marr, Partridge (Beatrice and Florence), and Mr Godfrey. Mr Pegg gave an .exhibition of •■bone playing, and had to respond to an encore. Misses Effie .Watson and A Hojnes played the "Sultan's Grand March.'' On .Thursday evening the annual tea meeting of the Rangiora Methodist Church was held, and was largely attended. Tea was suppbed by the ladies of the conpregaSon. A-public meeting was held, at which Mr D. Graham presided, when, a satisfactory balance-sheet was *read. Speeches of welcome to tbe Rev. A Poster were made by Revs. W. Laxoh, A. DouT., Captain Ellis of the Salvation Army, Rev. T. Griffin, and Mr Geo. Watson. The Rev. A Porter addressed the meeting. S. Fenner, W.P., presiding. The M.W.P. brought up the matter of electing a-K.»., in place of Bro. R. G. Jones, who would shortly be leaving- the colony. Various matters were brought up for discussion, including the unsuitableness of the room during the winter evenings. Tbe meeting was adjourned for a fortnight. A very enjoyable social took place on "nrarsday night at the HJbecfiian Hall, in connection with the celebration of St. Patrick's Day. The President 6f the local branch of the H.A.C.8.5., Bro. C. CouTtney, occupied the chair. The secretary, Bro. G. J. Sellars, read tbe balance sheet of the concert, which showed that a substantial balance bad accrued to the Society. Several toasts were duly honoured, including "The President," "The Concert Committee,' etc., and a very pleasant evening was spent.
