The rise in price is chiefly tpeoulative, and roadnly due to reports of the piobahle formation of an American combination; The New Zealand Farmers' Co-Operative Association of Canterbury, Ltd., have received the following cable irom their London ' office under date 27th April :-— . ■■ -i: Frozen Meat-—We quote to-day's value ' in Smithfield Marketi. Lamb, 6-} d per lb, market is hardening} mutton,4 l-8d per lb, market is steady.' Wool-—Market has an improving tendency. - Messrs Dalgety and Company, Limited, have, received the following cablegram from tlidr London office uncler date, 27th inst. :— ■ 'Trtine" factory Victorian butter is worth 94a per cwt. The market is weak." The. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company have received the following London cable message dated 26th inst.:— "Frozen meat—Mutton market firm. Canteroury mutton is worth 4_d per lb and Wellington 3]d per lb. (Last quotation was - 3|d and 3|d respectively). Lamb market firm. Prime New Zealand lambs are.worth per„«jgre;»&-4%d per lh. (Last quotation 4-Jd New Zealand beef—Market quiet. Forequartcrs are worth 3£d per lb and hindquarters 4_d, per lb. (Lost quotation was 3|d and 4d respectively). '
