A La Croix Clerical The list, of course, is very incomplete, but, even in its present form, may assist some English readers, who are continually seeing quotations from French papers, to gauge more accurately the value of the opinions they express, especially on the French topic of. the day. <^_________> ____ A gentleman had to dismiss his gardener for dishonesty. For the sake of the man's wife and family, however, he gave him a "character," framing it in this wise: 'T hereby certify that A. B. has been my gardener for over two years, and that during that time he has got more out of my garden than, any man I ever employed.''
