REPRESENTATIVE CRICKET TEAM.

I In dealing with the proposal to send a representative cricket, team from New-Zea? land to Australia early in February next, the New Zealand Cricket Council on Saturday was informed by-its' secretary that he and his predecessor had gone into the question of cost,, which -they, estimated, at £325, including such allowances £is might be necessary for loss of time. To meet this they calculated that £150 at least would be received from the Associations visited. The Council at the time for the team to leave would be worth about £157, so that practically the tour was financed, and there did not appear to be any likelihood of any necessity to call, on affiliated associations to lift such guarantees as.they might provide. j Mr Tapper had written to the different asso-

ciations tor an expression of opinion on the subject. Otago had guaranteed £50; provided the Council exhausted £125 of its own funds before calling on the guarantors.: WeUington offered £50. There was no reply yet from the Canterbury Association, but the delegates had no doubt about the Association providing a similar guarantee. Auckland declined to guarantee owing to want of funds. The Council naving well discussed the question, decided that the team should consist of thirteen men and a manager; that it be selected by the 20th December; that Messrs Tapper, Raphael, and Harman be a sub-committee to draft the programme of the tour, and submit it to the next meeting, and that Messrs Wilding, Collins and Carter be appointed a sub-committee to report concerning the matter of manager. It was understood that the selector, Mr Ashbolt, if he found men of his selection could not make the tour, should submit any proposed alterations to the Council, which body should decide whether any but an absolutely representative team should go.
