ASTONISHED PATRIOTS.
Three among the most loyal citizens of Timaru (says the Herald) put up a world's secord in the early hours of Wednesday morning. They met in front of the town clock each with a cony of the National Anthem, waited some time for the Queen's signal and the crowd to collect, but at last, concluding that her Majesty bad, in the excitement of the day, forgotten all about the cable message, and that Timaru citizens were nob loyal enough to assemble and sing the Anthem, struck up.-..a-trio and were congratulating themselves how well they had sung is aud saved the honour of Timaru, when the town clock struck "four." They were astonished, struck a light and compared watches to see that the clock had not lied, found that it had not, looked round to. see that no policeman or crowd was about and fled home to bad after whispering "mum's the word."
