AN ELECTION MUDDLE.
At Timaru an extraordinary muddle has been made of the election of a Councillor for the South-West Ward. The nominations were announced to be delivered at the schoolhouse in that ward, closing yesterday. Before noon one was delivered at the Town Clerk's Ofnce, and at noon the Clerk, as Returning Officer, .accepted this as the only one, and declared the nominee duly elected. He was then informed that another nomination had been made at the place appointed. He hastened over, accepted this, and declared the person elected, arid gave "Public Notice" that this the second declaration was the correct one. It is proposed to solve the difficulty by a resignation and a fresh election.
