SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

The • monthly meeting of the Sumner School Committee took place on Saturday evening. Present — Messrs' J. Crawford (Chairman), Bamford, Hancock, Hughes, Lawson and Rollitt. Correspondence that had passed between the Chairman and the Board of Education - regarding the missing petition of householders was read, and it was resolved that a deputation irom the Committee, consisting of the Chairman and Messrs Bamford, Hughes, and Rollitt, wait on the Board on Wednesday next re school Accounts to the amount of £2 8s were passed for payment. Circulars from several candidates for the vacant seat on the Board of Education were considered and it was unanimously resolved to vote for Mr J. R. Brunt. The election of the Board of Governors, Canterbury College, was considered, and it was agreed that the vote should be given to Messrs Buddo, J. L. Scott, and G. W. Russell. Some minor matters connected with the school were discussed, and it was resolved that the school children should be given -holidays on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday in Demonstration week. A special meeting, of the New Brighton School Committee, was held yesterday, when it was decided that the Committee's vote should be recorded for Messrs T. W. Adams, H. W. Peryman, and A. Saunders for seats on the Board of Governors of Canterbury College. The Committee decided to close the school on the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd June for holidays in honour of the Record Reign. At its last regular meeting Mr C. A. C. Hardy, of Rakaia, received the Committee's vote to fill the vacancy on the Board of Education caused through the retirement of Mr J. W. Sawle. A special meeting of the Lyttelton Committee was held on Monday afternoon. Present—Messrs Field (Cmurmanf, Webb, Willcox, Brice, Hobden, Revs. Coates, Treadwell and Murray. It was resolved to record the Committee's vote for the election for the Canterbury College Board of Governors in favour of Messrs Scott, Smith and Douglass. The Committee expressed the hope that the regulation | making it imperative to meet and record j votes before 5 p.m., and on the day of elec- i tion only, would be amended and made more . reasonable before next election. Robertson (Chairman), E. R. L. Knight, H. Feutz, W. J. Jenkins, it was decided to vote for Messrs T. W. Adams, D. Buddo, and J. L. Scott as members of the Board of Governors. It was also decided to vote for Mr C. A. C. Hardy to fill the vacancy on the Board of Education. The Annat Committee held their monthly meeting. Present—Messrs Keys (Chairman), Halladay, McNae, and Wright. It was decided that tho expense was too great to join the School Committee Association and send a delegate. Some small accounts were passed. The Annat Committee have decided to vote for the Rev. Barclay, and Messrs Pery-. man and Scott for the College Board of Governors. * At a special meeting of the Ashley Com* mittee it was decided to vote for Mr 0. A. C. Out of a large number of applicants Miss Craighead, of Ashley, was recommended by the Oxford West Committeo to the Board for appointment as mistress.
