Show to-day exceeded that of last year, i despite the showery af tsrnoon which stopped many town visitors. The horses were remarkably good this year, the judges, r who have not been in the district t -for five years, commenting on the marked improvement, especially in draught mares and roadsters. Tasbun was } the Champion draught entire, King of t Princes two-year-old, and; I*dy Salisbury , the champion mare. The Southland Stud Company's Ike and Lorraine wets (he best thoroughbred entires, and Adele the best mare. The exhibition of jumping was very good, and the struggles were prolonged. Eventually Mr LandelTs Perfection won the hurdles and Mr McKay's Golden Moth the j high jump. The pigs were much more numerous than usnaL The first prize for new cheese was taken by the Inch Clutha £ Factory, the Stirling Factory second- For t old cheese the Boslyn Dairy Factory took r first prize. Wheat 1801 came from John i Turner, Queenstown. The town is full of strang4Q&.
