Battery, was fired on Friday evening last. Conditions, six Vhots kneeling, lowing were the five highest scorers .- Gunnlr Nicholson 24, Sergeant Costley 23, Sergeant Lowry 23, Gunner Higgs 23, and Gunner Soper 23. . ' On Saturday night, at Lyttelton, a match was fired with Moms tubes batween teams of sixteen men a side, representing the N Battery Artillery and Naval Artillery. The result was a tie, both sides scoring 323. A match took place on Saturday between teams numbering twenty men aside, of the Christchurch Working Men s Club Rifle class and Christ's College Rifles, on the Morris tube range in the hall of the Club The match had been looked forward to with much interest, as was evidenced by the large attendance of Club members and visitors from other rifle corps. The scoring of the class team was very good, their average being about 30 each. Some of the visiting team made some good scores. The rifles used were medium Sniders, seven shots each. The result of the competition was a win tor the class team with a majority of 81 points, the totals being—Class, 599; Rifles, 518. Lieutenant Day captained the Rifles, and Mr J. Costley the class team. After the match the President of the Club announced the result, and complimented the visitors for competing with so strong a team in point of numbers. The usual friendly greetings being exchanged, a very enjoyable match was brought to a conclusion, Mr R. Mathias 22, Private Humphreys 21, Private Butler 12; total, 518. On Friday evening the first competition for a trophy presented by Messrs Mason, Struthers and Co. was fired (200 yds range). The scoring was good ; thirty competed. The two highest were S. W. Neate 30, G. R. Joss 30. The conditions are—2ooyds, 300 yds, 500 yds, the first two ranges kneeling, the third any position. The highest aggregate scorer at three ranges to become the winner of the trophy. On Saturday evening a match with the Morris tube was fired at the Gladstone Hotel range between teams representing the Press and Lyttelton Times offices and Messrs Mason, Struthers and Co., fifteen men aside. The winners were Messrs Mason, Struthers and Co. with a score of 428, the Times team second with 408, and the Press third with 400. The last named team fired three men short, and the average was taken. The scores averaging centres and over were as follows :—Mason, Struthers and Co.—Hastie 34, O. W. Turpin, Pickering, Drake and Allen 32, Clark 30, Gee and Wells 29, Harrison 28; Lyttelton Times—Klein 32, Wagstaff 31, Davey and Woodward 30, Mason 29, West and Schwartz 28; Press—Watts and Hardcastle SO, Allardyce and Chad wick 29, Eastwood and Hiorns 28.
