COURTENAY.
A meeting of this Board was held oil Tuesday, August 13th Inst. PresentMessrs T. H. Anson (Chairman), J. Gough, J. Dysart, and C Rudd. The followma: correspondence was read:—Prom the Ballway Commissioners in reply respecting the train service on the Malvern branch line. From the East Malvern Road Board, stating that nothing had been done by them In connection with storm watei coming down the West Coast road on to this district since the receipt of thla Board's letter of July, 1888. From the Selwyn County Council re the contribution of £311 7s 2d required from this district on account of hospitals and charitable aid fC the year ending March 31st, 1890, also covering copy of special order made by the Council requiring a rate of seven-fiftieths of a penny in the £ to be levied and collected by the local bodies on the values of the rateable property in the county as appearing on the valuation rolls now In force. Mr Gough gave notice that he would, at the next ordinary meeting of the Board, move that a rate be struck for the purpose of meeting the above demand. From the manager of the Industrial school, Burnham, asking permission to take (gravel from the Board's pit in reserve 1487. Granted. From N. Johnson asking to have the rent of resserve 1524 reduced on account of the extra fencing he has been obliged to do owing to the opening of the boundary roacLDe* ferred. From G. Addington applying foi permission to take water across the Homebush road in an open crossing for the Surppse of filling a pond. Declined. From . W. Belgrave applying on behalf of the Foresters , Society for the use of the large room at the office for the purpose of holding their meetings. Clerk Instructed to reply. Tenders for renting reserve 1507 at Charing Cross were considered, and that of J. C. Sheldon at 6s per acre per annum accepted. Mr McCauslandf interviewed the Board on behalf of the trustees of the Klmberley domain, requesting permission to turn the water-race water at present running through the domain into a ditch on the road outside of same as whenever the race below the Domain becomes obstructed considerable damage accrues to the trees there. The Board adhered to their decision of last year in regard to this matter, and declined to allow the water to be put on the road. The Surveyor read his report on the roads in the district requiring at* tention, and he was Instructed to can for tenders for various works of metalling, See. Resolved that the Rangers be instructed to take legal' proceedings against all parties who are in the habit of herding stock on the public roads. Accounts amounting to £128 4s 3d having been passed for payment, the Board adjourned till September 10th next.
