Communications intended for insertion must be accompanied by the name of the writer. To the Editor of ' The Press. , Sin—l wish to call the attention of the Authorities to the wretched state of Salisbury-street East. It is at the present time almost impassable. A temporary bridge has been erected over the creek which runs across this street, but it is extremely dangerous to travellers passing over it after dark This bridge was erected entirely at the expense of the inhabitants, without any aid from the Government; and at present it is in such a condition that, unless some, thing is done at once, it is very likely that some loss of life may be the consequence. But it is not only the inhabitants ef this part of the town that suffer by this state of the roads, it is a matter of public interest ; not only is the traffic considerable which passes this way, but It is also the main road from Christchurch to the Cemeteiy; and therefore the woik of putting the* thoroughfare in order ought to be undertaken at once by the Authorities, and not left, as it has hithetto been, to be done by private individuals. Hoping that this will find a place in your columns, I remain, Youis, &c, A LOVER OF JUSTICE.
