A strong deputation oonstisting of the chairman of the Thames Harbour Board (Mr W. J. Danby), the Mayor (Mr W. Bongard), the member of Parliament for the district (Mr A. M. Samuel) and the engineer to the board (Mr E. F. Adams) will go to Auckland on Wednesday and meet the Minister of Marine, the Hon. J. G. Cobbe, to discuss the matter of the Public Works Department completing the Thames Harbour channel, the Department to take over certain of the board's assets in payment. The public schools will close on Thursday afternoon for the Easter holidays and re-open on the following Tuesday.

An electric wiremen’s registration examination was held at the Tauranga school on Friday and Saturday last, when four candidates presented themselves. A communication was read at the last meeting of the Bay of Plenty Power Board requesting the Council to submit the terms and conditions under which the Borough was prepared to sell its electrical undertaking to the Board.—The matter was referred to the Finance Committee for a report, with power to confer with the Borough solicitors if necessary. A Springdale party of farmers consisting of Messrs F. V- Walters, Howard Wagstaff, L. Bailey, D. Johnson and C. R. Malcolm spent five days camping and fishing at Bowentowu recently (says the le Aroha News). They reported on their return having had fine sport, the combined catches totalling 150, chiefly schnappcr, many of which weighed 101 b and 121 b. Mr Walters also caught a kingfish of unusual dimensions.

There arc over 4650 bridges on New Zealand's roads. This total does not include the innumerable small bridges of less than 25 feet in length. About 4350 of the bridges are in the comities, cities and boroughs control 23, and the remainder arc in town and road districts.

The following information has been cabled to the London office of the Waihi Goldmining Company ; For the four weekly period ending March 9, 17,203 tons of ore were crushed for a result of a 342 fine ounces of gold and 43,503 fine ounces of silver. This includes 912 tons mined from the Grand Junction area, which yielded 400 oz of gold and 52340 z of silver.

A painful accident befell Mr C. F. Washer while he was cutting down some rose hushes on his property in Browne Street. A bramble, in falling, struck him in the face, with the result that a thorn lodged deeply in the left eye. The thorn was removed by a doctor, and, fortunately, the sight of the eye will not he impaired.

The community lighting system did not go on until 0.30, and that on Friday night. Some shopkeepers are complaining that the lights did not go on untl 6.30, a.nd that it was impossible to see into the shops, but last night the lights were on at 5.30.
