Mr J. F. Mackley, locomotive engineer of the North Island railways, is retiring after forty_ years service. Ho intends to reside at Auckland.
Dr McMiken, Superintendent of the Whakatano Hospital, who has been indisposed for several months and has been recuperating at Russell, expects to resume duty next month.
Sir H. Lindo Ferguson has been appointed a member of the Board of Health undter the Health Act, and a member of the Medical Council, under tho Medical Practitioners Act.
The Minister of Industries and Commerce (Hon. J. G. Cobbe) is iii Auckland. He expects to return to Wellington on Thursday.
According to a Press Association message from Wellington the Hon. T. M. Wilford, Minister of Justice, denies the rumour that he has been appointed High Commissioner in succession to Sir James Parr, whoso term of office is nearing the end.
Staying at Fergusson’s at the Mount are Misses Cox (Remuera), Mrs Gallic, Miss Ibester, Miss Crocker and Mrs Metcalf (Auckland), Count C. Stromfeldt (Sweden), Mr Bird (Te Aroha), Mr Hoare (Wellington), and Mr Halkett (Rotorua). Dr. Drier, of Auckland, is at present spending a holiday at tbo Mount.
