FAIRFAX SCHOOL.
The following was the report subnritted at the annual meeting of householders at the Pail fax School on Monday :— The average number of ohildren in attendance during the four quarters ending in June, September, Deoember, and March respectively was 62, 78, 91, 84. The number on the roll for the current quarter is 47 boys and 54 girls ; total 107. Your Committee oongratulate you on the marked increase in the roll number and the great improvement in the regularity of attendance. In June of last year Mr J. A. Scott, who had filled the position of headmaster for a year, waa compelled to retiro owing to illhealth. Your Committee accepted his resignation with much regret. The vacano.y thuß caused wae filled by the appointment of Mr C. Mahoney, who, with the aeeißtance of Miss Ferguson, ia carrying on the work of the sohool with energy and aucoess. We oongratulate the staff on the aatiafaotory position of the sohool and the high tone whioh marks the oonduot of the ohildren under their charge. The annual pionio was as usual held in the school grounds, on the 24 ih of December. The „ weather waß favorable and there was a good attendance of children and their parents. The former had a very merry time, and the latter were evidently well pleased with the outing. There was as usual an extensive display of fancy work and needlework in the sohoolroom, whioh elioited high praise from those who inspected it. Miss Ferguson deserves speoial credit for her untiring zaal in this department of the school work. After Mr Mahoney's appointment, the Education Board, at the rt quest of your Committee, decided to ereot a new residsnoe. This has now been completed, and is a large, substantial and beautiful building, Your Committee desire to record here their hearty thanks to the Eduoation Board for the liberal way in whioh the wants of the district in this regard were attended to, lour Committee assisted by the head-master, have initiated improvements to the school glebe, whioh will add grea' ly to its value and appearance. The balance-sheet shows the balanoe in hand from laßt year to be £18 8s 9d, the total receipts as £27 9s, and the balance now in hand as £16 7s Id.
