NEW RACING CLUB.

4 - A meeting ofgentlemen desirous to form a Jockey Club was held at Mr C. Leach's Ormondville Hotel on Thursday. There were about 23 gentleman present, representing Makotuku, Ormondville, and Norsewood. Mr Leach took the chair, and Mr Hollins acted a s secretary until a > permanent secretary should be appointed. Mr Parnel Cross was aopointed permanent seceetary to the club, and, after a little discussion as to what name the club should be known by, it was decided to call it the Ormondville, Makotuku, and Norsewood Racing Club - „,,., Mr Leach was appointed President, and Mr R. Groom, Treasure! . Messrs Andrews, Bains, Gasson, Essex, W. L. Siddles, Mcßeath, E. Olsen, G. Wright, B. Silberman, and O. Ericksen were appointed Stewards. Mr L. Siddles to be Starter, Mr Silberman Clerk of the Scales, and Mr O. i Encksen, Judge. It was decided to write to Mr Mor.an, asking him to act as Handicapper. • Mr E. Olsen reported having waited upon Mr Gollan and having received permission from him to use the course at Pakaroa, near Kopua. Messrs Gasson, Essex, Silberman, and Ericksen were appointed a subcommittee to lay out the course on Saturday next, tenders to be called for ploughing, harrowing, rolling, removal of all stumps and stones, and sowing grass on the course ; tenders to be in on Monday and the work to be completed in one week. It was, however, thought that one week would not be long enough to do the work in, and the committee were given power to extend the time to two weeks. A very good programme was drawn up for the first meeting and rules and conditions were* also considered. It was decided to run under the New Zealand Metropolitan Rules, and that the fint meeting be held on the" 27th December, 1888, nominations to be in by tHe 27th prox., weights declared on the 4th December, and acceptances received to the 18th December. There will be in all seven races run at the first meeting, three of which will be open, and four district races. The meeting was a very successful one, and the Business was conducted •witn dispatch and good feeling throughout.
