FATALITY AT A PICNIC.

Sydney, Aug. 20. A terrible accident occurred at Bourkeon Wednesday morning last. The day had been set apart for a public holiday and children's picnio, and nearly every child in the ' town assembled at nine o'oloofc and marched to the Bulabong bridge, where conveyances were waiting to convey them to the picnic ground, about three miles down the river. After a short delay the children were all stowed away in lorries, m carts, vans, waggonettes, buggies," &c, and the procession set out for its destination. It had gone about half a mile when the timber frame round one of the largest of the lorries, carrying a number of girls, broke, precipitating many of the occupants out. Two girls and a boy were killed on the spot and several others were seriously injured, while about ten or twelve other children ~ were more, or less hurt. All of them were conveyed on a lorry to the Hospital, where Dr. Sides had made as far as possible provision for them. The names of the children killed were Arthur 0. Paine (three years), and Annie Mearthy (six years), and Ada Lilian Wharton (six years). The jury returned a verdict of accidental death, no blame being attached to an} r body. The Mayor received a telegram from Lord Oarrington expressing sympathy with the friends of the deceased children, who were buried the following day with public oeremony.
