+ — ■ — The ordinary monthly meeting was 1 held on Saturday evening. PresentMessrs G. Wratt (Chairman), W. ¥. Knight, D. McDermott, G. Dickey, T. ; Miller. Correspondence was read from the Treasury, enclosing £7 lOs lld, balance oi subsidy due. From the Crown Lands Commissioner, Napier, stating that the proposals for the expenditure of the deferred thirds had been approved, and that* vouchers for the amounts would be made out and passed for paymeut as soon as possible. A discussion took place over an account of 16s sent in by Mr McGaughran for clearing a tree from tbe road in Umutaoroa block. Ultimately it was resolved that aU the settlers in the block be asked to fell their sections one chain back from the road, the Clerk to write and point out that the settlers will be liable for the cost of removing trees that fall upon the road. With reference to the deviation of the road at Mr Gaisford's, Mr Knight said he had seen Mr Williams, who told him there would be some difficulty in approving the deviation. Mr Gaisford wished the road gone on with, but if the Board spent money on the road before it was placed on the map the members might be liable^ and any settler who felt inclined could cut the fence and use the old road. The Chairman also pointed out that any ratepayer could enter an action against them, If the Board took any. action they should go through with it, but if money was spent it must be done legally. Mr McDermott asked about the deviation of the Wainui-Tahoraite road. The Engineer said that had been deviated by Mr Hallett since 1883. Mr Knight understood from Mr Williams that they proposed to make a deviation on the Kumeroa side. Mr Miller Raid they could take the land under the Public Works Act, Mr Knight aaid the Chief Surveyor would not accept the plans. The Chairman thought that the position the Chief Surveyor took up threw the whole responsibility on the Board. Mr Dickey did not want to go into anything they would lose money over. _ Mr Knight mentioned that all they di 1 at Kaitoke was to write to Mr Baker. He sent up Mr Hallett to lay , off the road. He would move that the Chairman takothe necessary steps to obtain the deviation of the OnngiMatahiwi road, and that tho Engineer lay otf the road and call tenders for felling the bush*. Seconded by MiMiller and carried. The Chairman called attention to the state of the mill cutting, in which a stump was in a dangerous position. Upon the motion of Mr Miller, seconded by Mr Dickey,- the Chairman was authorised to have the stump removed. It was further decided, upon Mr McDermott's motion, seconded by the Chairman, to post up a notice that no more metal should be taken f \ om the mill cutting. After passing a few accounts the Board adjourned.
