THEEfi have been whispers . of dissatisfaction at the manner in which the Norsewood Relief Fund is being administered. And that there was some ground of complaint the meeting held at Noi'«e\vood last week goes to show. The general committee have, we believe, had no complaints formally brought before them, but the particulars reported at; the Norsewood meeting call for immediate and close investigation. If the statements there made are correct, it is evident that the distribution of funds has been made by rule of thumb, and without due and proper enquiry into the merits of those cases, Mr Petersen hit the right nail upon the head when he urged that a committee that would value every man's loss was what was wanted, and that such loss should be valued independently without taking the ipxc dixlt of anyone as to the loss sustained by him, A report made by a committee that would undertake the work of valuing upon that baste would be most valuable as a guide to the <Ji;*tributin/{ committee, and it is matter for sur* prise that that body did not in the first instance, peek suck local assistance at* would have enabled them to apportion the funds fairly, and in a manner commensurate with individual losses. for complaint, nor would the settlers have been under the necessity of holding a meeting to draw attention to such glaring cases as were brought forward last week. We hope the matter, now that it has been taken up, will be fully investigated, so as to enable the remainder of the fund to be administered as impartially as possible. That, at least, is due to those who have come forward to assist the sufferers by the fire.
