PUBLIC OPINION.
[Correspondence upon topics ol general interest in the district is invited, but we are not responsible for the opinions expressed.] THE FOOTBALL MATCH. (To The Editor.) Sm,— The people who, like myself, witnessed the football match that took place between Takapau and Makotuku last Saturday have received the impression that your correspondent was. suffering from an overdose of Pill/nionia. With your permission, Mr Editor, I should like to correct one or two errors in the report that appeared in your Tuesday's issue. For instance, your correspondent has it, " Symons again kicked out, and Pilmer following .up with his usual speed and backed up by Symons managed to get the ball into the Makotuku 25. Garforth kicked out of touch in defence. Symons threw into Pilmer, who dropped over the line with Coup and Armstrong. A maul ensued, in which Pilmer outmatched his two opponents." It was not Pilmer who nook the ball into Makotuku 25, but a Maori who dribbled down the fielt* l . and when a short distance from goal kicked into touch, and when Pilmer fell over the line Armstrong only accompanied him, the latter having a very poor hold of the ball. Again further down he (your C.) says that " Smith get the second try for Makotuku." JShw, Morrisey got the try and took the kick. .Again, "Coup kicked over the line and followed up well, but Pilmer was about and the two obtained the ball together." It should read " Pilmer, getting possession of the ball, assayed to run, but Coup drove him back on the goal line and then collared hini aud threw him over the Jine, when the maul ensued." I make the above remarks in justice to both teams, as Pilmer's play was certainly not particularly striking from a footballer's point of view, his offside play and hand-ball being very conspicuous. Trusting that 1 have not trespassed too much, — I am, etc., Onlooker. Makotuku, May 30.
