MEETING OF SAWMILL PROPRIETORS.

A meeting of sawmill proprietors was held at Makotuku on the 19th inst., Mr Frits Jenssen in the chair, when the following resolutions were passed :— (1.) We, the undersigned, .thinking it most desirable that tbe sawmillers of Hawke's Bay and the Hawke's Bay Timber Comp my, Limited, form themselves into an association for the purpose of protection of the sawmillers' interests, and that in order to carry out this object a tariff of prices be now agreed on, and a bond entered into for the purpose of faithfully carrying out the same by. a legal •{agreement, which we shall each subscribetq. % That is far as totara-pro-ducing mills 'are concerned the boucl be ,£3OO as penalty, or .£IOO as far as pine-millers are concerned, recoverable summarily. (2.) That three months' notice from above bond to be sufficient for withdrawal to the Secretary of the Hawke's : Bay Timber Company, Limited. (3.) That all orders in hand up to date be executed by the mills at prices agreed upon by the millers. The following future schedule of prices was then agreed upon :— White pine, 9s ; mixed totara, 9s 6d ; rimu. 9s 6d ; matai, 10s 6d ; dressing (extra), 2s 6d : maire (at. mills), 35s ; heart of totara (at the Spit), 15s ; Gd extra to be charged per 100ft for each inch in width over 12in, and also 6d extra per 100ft for every foot in length over 25ft. (4). That timber merchants and mill owners be allowed a reduction of 9d for 100ft for all timbers except heart of totara, and Is per 100ft on hear- of totara, and that millers be allowed to pay agents a commission of not more than 5 per cent, on the schedule prices, less freight. (5). > That the schedule prices of the .Association operate within the provincial district of Hawke's Bay. We, the undersigned, hereby undertake to execute a bond embodying the resolutions carried at this meeting at Makotuku this nineteenth day of May, 1888 :— Frits Jenssen ; on behalf of the Hawke's Baj Timber Company, Limited, B. L. Knight ; per Tamaki Sawmill, Limited, W. Westlake ; George Grant, Aug. J. Crawford, Lycett and Cross. The Hawke's Bay Timber Co., Limited, have received intimation from the undermentioned gentlemen, in addition to those signing at the meeting, that they will abide by the prices fixed by the Association :— .Robert Holt, Thomas Tanner, William Ra'hbone, Lucas and Humphreys, Wilding and Co., Glendinning and Griffin, Upchurch and Morley.
