SINGULAR PHENOMENON IN MID-ATLANTIC.
Ihe passengers who landed at Queenstown on Tuesday morning from the Inman steamer City of Chicago, from New York, report that on the morning of the 19th inst., two days after leaving New York, three immense spiral columns of what at first appeared to be waterspouts, moving in a south- westerley direction, were observed about a mile distant from the steamer, on the port side rising out of the water. The sea at the base of the column was in a very disturbed state, and the spray was being lifted to a great height by a whirlwind. One column appeared to incline to a considerable angle. The phenomenon, which lasted for eight minutes disappeared in a thick mist.
