THE QUEEN'S BOUQUET AT FLORENCE.
FLORENCE. Among the splendid baskets of flowers which were presenter! to Queen Victoria on her arrival at the Villa Palmieri the one sent by the Royal Horticultural Society at Florence was particularly noticeable. It was composed exclusively of flowers indigenous to the vast dominions of her Britannic Majesty. There were beautiful specimens of the Himalayan rhododendron, dendrobium, cyprepedium, aerides, and vanda from India and Burniah. The Cape of Good Hope contributed amaryllis, freesia, and erica ; while the acacia, epacris, chorizenia, and many other lovely blossoms from the vast continent of Australia lent their beauty to enhance the whole. The following lines, in English, accompanied the flowers : — Our Flora's bow ers, proud to receive The visit of Great Britain's Queen, "With pressing courtesy beg leave, As welcome to thissouthern scene, Within her august hands to lay These bloom?, that thrive where Britons sway.
