KING'S BIRTHDAY
WAAC'S LEADER AND NURSE
Two women have been included in the King's Birthday Honours. Chief Commaner (Mrs.) Vida Eliza Jowett, of the New Zealand Women's Army Auxiliary Corps, has been awarded the 0.8. E. (Order of the British Empire), and Charge Sister Miss Joyce Trevelyn Sexton, New Zealand Army Nursing Service, of Auckland, has been made an Associate of the Royal Red Cross.
The announcement that Mrs. Jowett, of Wellington, had been appointed Commandant of the New Zealand Waac's was made on July 2, 1942. The wife of Mr. Harold Jowett, barrister and solicitor, she was president of the Wellington branch of the Plunket Society for several years, and was a member of the Dominion council of that society. However, she retired from these positions when she was appointed to her present position. At the time of her appointment she was also a member of the Dominion executive of the Women's War Service Auxiliary.
