WOMEN'S HOCKEY
M. COLDHAM HITS FIVE GOALS A further series of games was played under the control of the A.L.H.A. at Melville Park last Saturday. Rain fell throughout, and players found difficulty in keeping their feet. Good hockey, of course, could not be played, although some who seemed able to manage the conditions stood out above the majority. H. McGarvey, centre-half for Technical, was brilliant and must now be classed as one of the best. Miss Shove, centre forward for North Shore, also showed greatly Improved form. The goalkeepers, unable to keep their balance through the muddy state of the ground round the goal mouths, suffered accordingly, penalty bullies being the order of the day. Wesley surprised by extending Mount Eden, the score at one stage reading two all. The younger players handled the going much better than their more seasoned opponents. However. Mount Eden
ran out winners by tour goals to two. In the Training College—Technical game, the teachers proved too good. M. Coldhara notched five goals and Miss Bryan one lor College, while Miss Owen scored Technical's only goal. Miss Thompson, custodian for "Tech." had a very unpleasant afternoon, most of her time being spent in sitting about in the muddy water. , University outclassed North Shore In every department of the game. 'Varsity's forwards showed flashes of good combination. Mines Braithwalte. Bilkey and Hogben being prominent. These players notched the seven goals between them. B. Conquest s goal was a really good »ne. The score in this match was 'Varsity. 7: Shore. 1.
