FARMERS OFFER.
MOUNTS FOR TRAINING. MOUNTED RIFLES' CAMP. (0.C.1. NEW PLYMOUTH, this day. An offer of 20 horses for use in camp in February by the Queen Alexandra's Mounted Rifles wa« made recently by a Waverley farmer subject to the stipulation that he should l>e allowed* a few weeks to break them in. This offer is typical of the exceptional response gained in the Waverley and Patea districts, which as grazing areas produce the type of horses ideadly suited to the purpose. Between &0 and SO horses, of which only about 13 per cent were rejected, were recently examined in the Hawera district and, despite the interruption of haymaking, a good response was received. Horses are, however, still required. Age* and lack of training in horses were stated by officer* at Hawera to be the principal reason for rejection, large numbers of horses being unsuitable as they were unbroken, and others because thev were too young or too old.
