FOOD PROBLEMS.
BRITISH PUBLIC WARNED. (Reed. 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 26. Indications of food difficulties came from several quarters to-day. Lord Woolton, Minister of Food, in a speech, appealed to the pifblic to 'be careful in using milk for the next two months,! although rationing is not proposed. An official order prohibits the use of liquid milk, including skimmed milk, in the manufacture of ice cream from December 1. Mr. R. S. Hudson, Minister of Agriculture. said in the House of Commons that a further increase in home food production was vital, particularly of edible crops and milk. lxird Wooltoii also pointed out that the shortage of sweets was due to a restriction oil available sugar, and t'he scarcity of slab chocolate was due to members of the Auxiliary Fire Service and workers in canteens receiving priority. The Colonial Office informed the coiintryYs largest banana importers that no more licenses would be granted for the| import of bananas into Britain. J A British official wireless message save the response of farmers and small-1 holders ,to the '"grow more potatoes'' campaign ha* not only produced a crop adequate for all requirements in the United Kingdom, but, as revealed by a recent stocks census made by the Ministry of Food, has also provided a substantial balance. Part of this extra supply is now being offered for sale by the Ministry for feeding to live stock, bringing welcome assistance to stock feeders and reducing the demands on >hipping space for imported feeding stuffs.
